Mash--heheheh thanks muchas bebehhh!!!
Okay, I've been pretty much busy settling my timetable this past week...And well, generally, enjoying the last few days of freedom before uni beckons and i'll be entrapped in the prison that is study..hahah apakan? drama...
Anyway, yesterday, on Brunei's National Day, I did what every Bruneian could do when they're in the patriotic mood but have no access to Brunei national day parades and whatnot...I played "Tanahairku" by my beloved choir on repeat...RINDUUUUUUUUUU heheheh...but honestly, I wish I'd paid more attention to those national day parades when I was back home..(HAH! ani baru kan rindu!) hahahaha
Other than that, went out for lunch with fellow Bruneian Athirah, since other Bruneians were busy with classes....(we were prob the only 2 in the mood to celebrate)....then went to Borders where me + her discovered our fascination with religion. I read this book "Why I Am A Muslim" by Asma Hasan...which I wish, and encourage everyone, Muslims or not, to read. For me, as a Muslimin, I was pleasantly surprised to read what Asma had to say. She wrote about stuff that I'm sure, young Muslims who are trying to fit in the increasingly Westernised world, will relate to. And for non-Muslims, it'll probably pleasantly surprise them to discover that things that we(as Muslims) have always known and loved about our religion, is nothing like what has been grossly misrepresented in the media. So, once again, I hope that as many people will be able to get their hands on this book.
And yesterday, as soon as I got back home, I practically sat on my sofa the whole evening, devouring the book. The ayat in my title is something I, myself admittedly, did not know until yesterday when I read the book. In the Qur'an it is clear, "There is no compulsion in religion." (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 256). Which means Islam does not encourage its followers to force the religion onto others! And here's another ayat which makes me love my religion, "Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, [] whoever believes in Allâh and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve []. (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 62). Doesn't these two ayats just show that Islam does not necessarily condemns other religions? It's like, wow. Anyway, this book has been eye-opening, and has made me even prouder to be a Muslim.
I wanted to share why I love my religion even more with this post....If at least one person gets something good out of this, Alhamdulillah. I've added new links for where I got my English tranlastion of the Qur'an as well as several cool people who advocate Islam in a way that young people ;) understand.
Peace out people and Happy belated National Day to my fellow countrymen :)
